has an accelerated, productive career in public accounting, consumer
business, government, telecommunication, and an entrepreneur.
Founder & President of SayNet,
Inc. (1997), the first private Certification Authority
based in Puerto Rico, providing e-authentication, e-privacy and
e-security for commerce conducted over the Internet. SayNet
(www.SayNet.net) offers
its international technology partners scalability of security
technologies in Spanish-speaking markets through the adoption
of appropriate legal and regulatory framework and alliances with
professional associations and academia to expedite knowledge,
training and quick deployment of use of digital signatures, certificates
and security products.
Former President of Celulares Telefónica (1996)
where he developed a command over wireless telecommunications
security and confidentiality. Former Puerto Rico Executive
for Unilever (1985-95), a global consumer products company,
responsible for Information Technology, Treasury, Commercial Management
and Finance. Former Auditor Ernst & Young (1981-85).
He is Member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) (1983).
He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Puerto Rico
(UPR) and alumni of Unilever General Managers Training Program
at London, conducted by Harvard/MIT Faculty in 1994.
Founder
of The Institute of Digital Signatures (TIDS) (www.DigitalSignatures.org),
a SayNet business unit, that has a hands-on training center for
the general public, within the UPR, Rio Piedras Campus. The Institute
was founded to meet the education requirements on the digital
signatures system established by the Puerto Rico Digital Signatures
Act, which became effective in year 2000. He is the first E-CPA
holding the designations of Digital Signatures Certified Engineer
and Instructor comprising US and Non-US Public Key Infrastructure
(PKI) technologies, VeriSign and Thawte, respectively (1998).
In his search for e-security technology knowledge and security
processes models, he has traveled around the world (North America,
South Africa, Europe, and Spanish speaking countries). He is a
faculty member of the AICPA on WebTrust E-Security courses.
Nelson
has collaborated with the Puerto Rico Governmental Commission
responsible for the Implementation of the Digital Signatures Act
of 1998. His company provides products and services to Mexico,
Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and other Spanish speaking
countries drafting legislation on electronic signatures to ensure
compliance with technology interoperability, reliable chain-of-trust
and efficient knowledge transfer.
